I just want to get this story down in print b/c I like it.
Five men went sailing. After a full day of fun, fishing, swimming etc, they pulled anchor to sail back to the shore. However, there was no wind. Everything was still. Leaving the sailboat stuck in the middle of the very large lake.
The first man was an OPTIMIST He started to raise the sail anyway: "The wind will blow soon enough. Let's raise the sail and wait."
The second man was a PESSIMIST: He yanked the ropes out of the first man's hands and said "Why bother? The wind won't blow anytime soon. We're stuck here!"
"It will blow"
"No it won't"
"Will too"
"Will not"
On and on they went. Finally they turned to the third man and asked for his opinion. This man was non-committal. "Well maybe it will start blowing, let's raise the sail. Wait though what if it doesn't..then we're just waisting time and effort." And just like the first two argued with each other, this guy stood there arguing with himself.
They asked the fourth man his opinion. He was just apathetic. "Whatever." was all he'd say.
It went on like this for hours. The first two arguing, the third just trying to appease the first two, the fourth not caring....then it happened,
The fifth man cried out "GOT IT!!!!" The others all looked at him. He'd not said anything or taken a side at all. He'd not tried to raise the sail nor did he say to keep it down, "What you find?" asked the others.
"The paddles, let's start rowing." He replied.
Which one of these are you?
